Newly Registered .com Domains with SI: The Other Side of the Super Intelligence Wave
Our first article followed the domains registered in the four days after Trump started renaming AI, and the second followed the rush on .si, the extension that spells SI. This one looks at the other side of the wave: .com, where most newly registered domains are found and where SI can only sit inside a name. Did SI start to work like AI as a naming word, and where did the names that carried it go?
How SI rose in .com
Before Trump's first post, newly registered .com names that started or ended with SI were rare. After it, they stayed well above that level and rose and fell in the same two waves as .si: after the UN speech, and again when news of large sales spread.

The letters came before the name
While the polls were still open, the S in SI could still mean superior or supreme, yet names with SI were already being registered. The full term took off only once the UN speech settled the name: names containing superintelligence jumped that day, then came in short bursts that faded within a day or two. Names with SI followed the market instead, rising and falling with the two .si waves.
| Names | 12 to 18 Sep Before Trump's first post | 19 to 25 Sep | 26 Sep to 2 Oct |
|---|---|---|---|
| SI at the start or end* | 48 | 3,260 | 5,676 |
| Contains superintelligence | 28 | 690 | 1,671 |
| AI at the start or end* | 6,950 | 7,862 | 8,143 |
| Agent in the AI sense* | 318 | 161 | 180 |
| Other names ending in intelligence | 456 | 686 | 502 |

While SI rose, names with AI did not fall; they grew a little over the same weeks. The interest also stayed narrow. Names with agent in the AI sense did not follow, and among names ending in intelligence, only superintelligence kept growing.
What SI was paired with
Most of these names simply attach SI to an everyday word: tornadosi.com, herdsi.com, okaysi.com. Tech and finance words come next, as in siappbuilder.com or daytradingsi.com. Names built on an existing company or product are rare, so for brand owners the SI wave in .com has looked more like word-grabbing than brand imitation: only 3 of the 100 names we sorted paired SI with a company or product name.
| Paired with | Examples |
|---|---|
| Everyday words | tornadosi.com, okaysi.com |
| Tech terms | siappbuilder.com, runtimesi.com |
| Finance terms | daytradingsi.com, dividendsi.com |
Where the names went
A large share of the new SI names went straight to the market. Among the names confirmed in both reviews, those with SI pointed to Afternic, Sedo or Atom several times as often as those with AI, and names containing superintelligence did so even more often. Afternic took almost all of it; Sedo, where the large .si sales were made, barely shows up on the .com side.
| Names | Names counted | Afternic | Sedo | Atom | All three |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| All newly registered .com | 1,980,650 | 1.3% | 0.0% | 0.4% | 1.7% |
| .com with AI at the start or end, confirmed in both reviews | 313 | 5.1% | 0.0% | 0.6% | 5.8% |
| .com with SI at the start or end, confirmed in both reviews | 213 | 23.9% | 0.5% | 3.8% | 28.2% |
| .com containing superintelligence | 2,361 | 34.4% | 0.1% | 0.8% | 35.3% |
| .si, from our previous article | 40,803 | 7.6% | 3.7% | 4.6% | 15.9% |
A share of names for sale this high is a normal sign of a major tech event. Domain investors piling in is often its first step, and it is also where opportunity and trap sit side by side.
Summary
The domain market sees many registration waves every year, and our weekly reports follow and dig into them. Trump's renaming of AI is a rare event on a much larger scale, so we took a deeper look.
SI also found its way into new .com names, but the .si rush still led the wave. On 1 October alone, we observed 10,138 new .si domains, nearly matching our estimate of 10,420 .com names with SI or superintelligence registered from 19 September to 1 October.
So far, domain investors have been the main force behind the wave, and the market shows clear signs of FOMO. This does not mean the wave will continue, nor that SI has become a lasting naming word. Whether SI is widely adopted still depends on many more players across the market taking part.
Data note: counts are newly registered .com names by UTC registration date, with the week before Trump's first post (12 to 18 September) as the baseline. Names where SI, AI or agent is only part of another word, a name or a human agency were removed with the same rules throughout; samples were then labelled by two separate Claude Opus 5.5 agents working independently, and estimates count only names both read as SI, AI or an AI agent. Daily estimates apply each period's review results to its days, and sale-platform shares for SI and AI use the confirmed sample names. The pairing figures come from a random 100 of the names both agents confirmed, sorted by the same two agents. The .si figures come from our previous article, where the .si row covers Trump's first post to 1 October. Some figures may change as we find more names from this period.
