Chance to Grab

Expired domains represent acquisition opportunities. Place a backorder for pending delete domains, bid at expired auctions, or contact the current registrant before the domain drops.

What is Expired Domain Search

DomainKits Expired Domain Search tracks expired domains and pending delete domains across 1,000+ gTLDs. Built on the same data pipelines as ABTdomain.com's advanced expired domains insights, updated daily. Each record includes the domain's current expiration status, registration history, hold status, drop deadline, and cross-TLD registration count.

The expiration pipeline has three stages. Expired: the domain has lapsed but is in a grace period where the owner can still renew. Redemption: renewal is possible but at a higher fee. Pending Delete: the final stage, the domain will be released within 5 days and cannot be renewed.

When Domains Leave Expired Domain Database

Domains leave through two paths. If the owner renews during grace or redemption, the domain returns to active registered status. If no one renews, the domain completes deletion and moves to Deleted Domain Search, where it becomes available for standard registration.

How to Search Expired Domains and Pending Delete Domains

Search results include domain name, expiration status, drop deadline, registration age, hold status, cross-TLD registration count, and more. The following key filters help you find the expired domains or pending delete domains you need.

Status

The most important filter. "Expired" shows expired domains in grace period. "Redemption" shows domains the owner can reclaim at higher cost. "Pending Delete" shows pending delete domains dropping within 5 days, the most time-sensitive opportunities.

Deadline

Narrows results to pending delete domains dropping on a specific date. Use with Status: Pending Delete to find domains that will become available for registration on that day.

Age

Filter by how long a domain has been registered: 0-5 years, 5-10 years, 10-20 years, or 20+ years. Longer registration history may indicate an established domain.

Type

Filter by character composition: Pure Alpha for letter-only domains, Pure Number for numeric domains, No Hyphen or No Number to exclude specific characters. Helps separate clean brandable names from bulk registrations.

Length

Filter by domain name length: under 5 characters, 5-10, 10-15, or 15+. Short expired domains are rare finds and typically the most valuable.

Expired Domain Search vs Other Domain Search Tools

A domain name moves through a predictable lifecycle. DomainKits provides a dedicated search tool for each stage. Expired Domain Search covers the stage between active registration and deletion.

Stage What It Covers
New Domains Domains registered in the past 60 days. Track registration trends, spot for-sale opportunities, and analyze registration periods.
Active Domains Currently registered gTLD domains that are resolving and publicly accessible. Full inventory search with pattern analysis and for-sale filtering.
Aged Domains Registered domains with 5 to 20+ years of history. Filter by age range and find for-sale listings with established domain history.
Expired Domains Domains in the expiration pipeline (grace period, redemption, pending delete). Backorder and drop-catch opportunities with deadline filtering.
Deleted Domains Previously registered domains that completed the deletion cycle. Available for standard registration with prior history intact.

Privacy by design: DomainKits focuses on what happens to a domain, not who owns it. Searches operate on registration metadata, not personal data.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between expired and deleted domains?

Expired domains are still in the expiration pipeline and may be renewed by the owner or go to auction. Deleted domains have completed this cycle and are available for standard registration. For immediately registrable domains, see Deleted Domain Search.

What does Pending Delete mean?

Pending Delete is the final stage before a domain is released. The domain cannot be renewed by the original owner and will be deleted within 5 days. This is the window for placing backorders through drop-catching services.

Which TLDs are covered?

Expired Domain Search covers 1,000+ gTLDs. ccTLD domains (.uk, .de, .cn, etc.) are not included due to registry policy restrictions. For broader monitoring needs, see Newly Registered Domain Search or Active Domain Search.

How do I use the Deadline filter?

The Deadline filter narrows results to domains dropping on a specific date. Use it with Status: Pending Delete to find domains that will become available for registration on that day.

How do I contact the owner of an expired domain?

Expired domains still have a registrant on record. You can attempt contact through the WHOIS-listed email, the registrar's contact form, or a domain broker. For a step-by-step guide, see How to Contact a Domain Owner.

Can I download the results?

Yes. Click "Export Results" after searching to download. Guest users have limited export access. See our Membership Tiers guide for details on each account level.
